Happy Halloween!! Be Safe out There.

Just wanted to say happy Halloween to everyone. Today has been a quiet day with no BIG news to report. Well nothing other than the FREAK Nor-Eastern that just snow in millions of Americans without power. And the  Record flooding in China.

Computer Safety:

There are many ways to keep your computer files and data safe:
1st- How much do you want to spend?
2nd- How big are ALL the files in question?
3rd- What are you protecting them from?

1- Cheapest way would be on flash drives, if the data and files are on the smaller size like spreed sheets, taxes, and personal info.(they can resist anything except full submersion and excessive smashing. locked away in a fire/water proof safe and your good.)
more expensive would be four or five drives of same make model and size in a redundant sett up.(A bit larger, heavier, and uses more power but can give you back-up in the event of a drive failure.)

2- As I have stated before, flash drives work for smaller files and thanks to technology can hold up to 32 gigs a piece, yet TB hard drives can offer much more storage and you may even be able to back up your entire system!

3- Information LOCKED away may be safest but hardest to kept up to date. I suggest VERY sensitive info be under lock and key with fire/water protection. Yet more public info that could be easily re obtained is to be placed on any level of backup drives.

Hope that everyone is well! If you are new to this blog and are wondering what you will learn watching my videos then let my tell you. I have been working on posting information about preparedness, safety, and earthquakes for about six months now. I am located in Northern California between Two big fault lines that are both over due for a 5.0+ Earthquake. I will post footage of any earthquake in the area and graphs of most all 3.0+ Quakes. i just want everyone in my area to know what to expect and how to deal with a BIG earthquake or even weather change or government tension. A low lying coastal area has extra vulnerabilities to it and people living there should know them and stay stocked against them.

The Polls are closed and....

Thanks to all that cast their votes for this weeks poll. Still I would love to see more people get involved in these real polls that show what we can do to build our comunity.

Home Fire is what this small group found to be the least prepared for.

-Small fire extinguishers are great to have in the home, around the kitchen or any open flame area,  and can cost anywhere from $17-$35.
-I found a two pack at CostCo for 32.99 and each one has an extra 15%- they come with pins and wall mounts.(I also recommend watching YouTube videos showing how to use one to put out a fire.Search: CERT)

-Don't forget to have a smoke alarm in every room and check the batteries every 3-4 months. ( Stock up on 9volts or buy rechargables.)

-Have an evacuation route in mind for your home and work incase of a fire, earthquake, or any other event that may occur for your area. (They may all need slightly different evacuation routes and teqnices.)

-Last make sure all measures to prevent accidental fires in the home are in place because even if your home caught fire and you are okay with that, think about your neighbors and how they would feel if you burnt down their home as well.
